Description:

Coffee cherries are taken to the wet mill on the same day. They are passed through a demuscilager and soaked overnight. The coffee beans are laid out to dry on a raised bed. Sometimes, depending on the weather, they are dried mechanically. The washed and natural coffee beans are stored separately.

Producer Story:

About the farm: The 1500-hectare farm in Masha owned by Haile Gebrselassie is the biggest farm producing specialty coffee in Ethiopia. Situated within the UNESCO biosphere reserve of Sheka at an altitude of 1680-1875m, the estate has an exquisite air quality and one of highest rainfalls (1800- 2200mm) in Ethiopia. Haile Coffee has constructed 18km of asphalt road linking the farm to the community in Yeppo Village and Masha town. We have constructed a primary school for the children of the local community. 250 hectares of the coffee estate have been reserved for conservation purposes. The farm has Organic, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certification.
